Radio Segment Part 1: Podcast Analysis

Please listen to the following podcast:

While listening think about the following questions and then write down your answers in a one page single spaced document. Please include the questions (in bold) in your response.

1. In your own words, what is the podcast’s thesis?  Can you create a focus sentence using one of the formats that Abel discusses in the reading we did (the graphical book)?

2. What makes the podcast interesting?  What caught you off guard?

3. Are the supporting points adequately substantiated with solid evidence? What makes the argument convincing? Explain your response.

4. Describe the way the podcast transitions from one idea to the next?

5. How are quotes from interviewees handled?  Are they allowed to stand on their own or are they interpreted or commented on?  Give an example.

6. Are there any areas or examples that seem unclear or are difficult to understand?

7. Does the script maintain your interest, and is it written in an engaging way? Describe some of the techniques that held your interest.

8. Does the conclusion adequately summarize the take away points? Does it answer any unanswered questions? Does it leave the reader with a sense of closure? Explain.

8. Discuss the production value of the podcast. How did things like music, interviews, and/or sound effects enhance the listening experience.
